Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has spoken publicly about Alejandro Garnacho as the 21-year-old prepares for an emotional return to Old Trafford this weekend.
The Argentine winger left Manchester United in the summer transfer window after being frozen out of the first-team squad by coach Ruben Amorim. Garnacho missed the club’s pre-season tour and did not feature in competitive matches before sealing a late move to Chelsea in September.
Chelsea beat rival suitors to secure Garnacho’s signature, paying £40 million with United inserting a 10 percent sell-on clause. The winger signed a long-term deal at Stamford Bridge, committing his future until 2032.
Maresca said Garnacho remains focused ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against his former side. While he avoided stoking tensions, the Chelsea boss acknowledged that the player’s return to Old Trafford will carry extra emotion.
“Whenever a player faces his old club, it is always special,” Maresca said. “But Alejandro is committed to Chelsea and ready to show his quality.”
The trip to Old Trafford will be Garnacho’s first chance to line up against United since his departure — a storyline likely to dominate the buildup to Saturday’s showdown.
