The death toll in Gaza has risen to more than 70,000 people, according to the enclave’s Health Ministry, as Israeli attacks continue despite a US-brokered ceasefire with Hamas.
Officials reported on Saturday that at least 70,100 Palestinians have been killed and more than 170,900 injured since the war began on October 7, 2023.
Civilian deaths continue despite truce
Medics said two children were killed on Saturday in an Israeli drone strike in Bani Suheila, east of Khan Younis. Witnesses told Al Jazeera the drone targeted a group of civilians near al-Farabi School, fatally injuring two brothers, Juma and Fadi Tamer Abu Assi. They later died at Nasser Medical Complex.
The strike reportedly occurred beyond the “Yellow Line,” the designated redeployment boundary set under the ceasefire agreement.
Multiple strikes across Gaza
Israeli ground, naval, and air forces also carried out attacks in several areas of the Strip:
- Al-Qarara, northeast of Khan Younis: three people injured
- Tuffah neighborhood, Gaza City: renewed air raids
- Eastern Rafah: additional strikes reported
These attacks follow another drone strike on Friday that killed a Palestinian man in Bani Suheila.
Hundreds of violations documented
Ismail al-Thawabta, head of Gaza’s Government Media Office, said 535 violations have been recorded since the truce took effect on October 10. He warned that Gaza’s humanitarian situation is deteriorating rapidly as vital infrastructure and services collapse under continued attacks.
