Israeli naval forces have illegally intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla, a civilian-led mission carrying humanitarian aid and international activists seeking to break the ongoing blockade on Gaza.
The flotilla, consisting of boats, ferries, and small ships, set sail under the banner of “Global Sumud” with participants from over 40 countries, including activists, doctors, journalists, and parliamentarians. Their stated aim was to peacefully deliver much-needed medical supplies, food, and other humanitarian relief to Gaza, where the United Nations has already confirmed famine conditions.
Witnesses reported that the Israeli navy surrounded the flotilla in international waters before forcibly boarding several vessels.

Organizers of the Global Sumud Flotilla condemned the interception, calling it a blatant attempt to silence international solidarity with the Palestinian people.
“This is not only an attack on humanitarian aid but also on the principles of freedom of navigation and human dignity,” said one spokesperson.
Human rights groups and international observers have also criticized the Israeli action, pointing out that the blockade of Gaza itself has been deemed illegal by various UN bodies. The interception, they argue, further restricts Palestinians’ access to vital resources.
The flotilla movement has historical precedents, most notably the 2010 Gaza Freedom Flotilla, during which Israeli forces raided the Mavi Marmara, killing ten activists and drawing widespread international condemnation.
As the situation develops, calls are growing for governments and international institutions to pressure Israel to end the blockade and allow unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza.
