Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered new military strikes on Gaza, calling them “powerful” attacks after accusing Hamas of breaking the ceasefire deal. The escalation raises fears that the fragile truce may collapse completely.
Netanyahu said Hamas committed a “clear violation” of the agreement. However, Gaza’s Government Media Office claimed that Israel itself has breached the ceasefire at least 125 times since it began on October 10, including attacks that killed 94 Palestinians.
Explosions and drone activity continue across Gaza despite the ceasefire. Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud, reporting from Gaza City, described the situation as “a constant reminder of how fragile this ceasefire is.”
Since October 2023, Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 68,527 people and injured more than 170,000 others. The conflict began after Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, that left 1,139 Israelis dead and around 200 people taken captive.
Observers warn that renewed fighting could derail diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region. Both sides accuse each other of violating the ceasefire terms, leaving civilians trapped in worsening humanitarian conditions.
