Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai has announced a $230,000 grant to restore education for children displaced by devastating floods in Pakistan.
In a video message, Malala said the funds would be divided between two local organizations: Idara-e-Taaleem-o-Agahi (ITA), which will receive $200,000, and the Mountain Institute for Education & Development (MIED), which will receive $30,000. The aid will go toward rebuilding schools, distributing books and uniforms, and providing essential learning materials for children who have lost access to education.
“Thousands of children have been left without schools after the floods destroyed classrooms across the country,” Malala said. “We must ensure that education remains a priority in recovery efforts. Children cannot be left behind.”
She also expressed solidarity with families affected by the disaster, calling education “a lifeline in times of crisis” and reaffirming her commitment to ensuring that displaced children can continue their studies.
The announcement comes as Pakistan struggles to recover from widespread flooding that has left millions homeless and destroyed vital infrastructure, with children among the hardest hit.
