Somalia has received modern equipment from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) to support the modernization of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation.
Somali officials said the assistance will improve institutional efficiency, strengthen service delivery and contribute to long-term Somalia agriculture development.
New support for Somalia agriculture sector
The equipment was handed over during a ceremony in Mogadishu on Sunday.
Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Mohamed Abdi Hayir Mareye welcomed the support and thanked Türkiye for its continued partnership.
He said the assistance represents the first phase of a response to a request presented to TİKA President Abdullah Eren during a meeting in Ankara in 2025.
The delivered equipment includes computers, printers and television screens.
Focus on institutional modernization
According to the ministry, the new equipment will help modernize government operations and improve service delivery across the agricultural sector.
Mareye said stronger institutions are essential for achieving food self-sufficiency and supporting national development goals.
“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to TİKA, the development agency of our brotherly nation, the Republic of Türkiye, for delivering today the first phase of their response,” he said.
He also expressed hope for continued cooperation between the two countries.
Growing Somalia-Türkiye partnership
Somalia and Türkiye have maintained close relations since 2011, when President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, then serving as prime minister, visited Somalia.
Since then, Turkish humanitarian and development assistance to Somalia has exceeded $1 billion.
The support has included investments in health care, education, infrastructure, municipal services and capacity-building projects.
Continued cooperation expected
Somali officials said the latest assistance reflects the growing partnership between Mogadishu and Ankara.
They added that continued cooperation in agriculture and other sectors will help strengthen development efforts and improve public services across the country.
